Archive

Here's my mate Rosko's band: Archive.
I would say, sounds like a more melodic Massive Attack but without the dub. Nice soundscapes, ethereal artverk, and probably awesome to watch live!

FRANK MUSIK: DAY 5 LIVE & LOST

I'm not a fan of his 'musik' yet, but this is a brilliant PR stunt. He is on a quest to perform 5 gigs across the country in 10 days, but there's a catch- he was dumped in a field with nothing but £20, a Blackberry, and his Myspace page for help .........

Youtube Block Vids For UK!

If yr wondering, like i am, 'why the heckness can't i watch my favourite Mariah Carey song on Youtube?', the answer is because the PRS wanted to charge Youtube too much money to licence video streaming in the UK.

The TV was better back in my day!!

I was at college the other day and my mate Ian started talking about probably one of the best children’s TV programmes of our youth…. KNIGHTMARE!

All of us started to chuckle with enjoyment as we remembered the awful graphics and poor acting that characterized this genius programme. I dunno if you know what it was about but basically you had a group of 4 youngsters, 1 being the night and wearing a pretty unpractical helmet which covered his eyes and his 3 friends who sat in the studio…. sorry, room in a castle directing his steps to victory, or as usually was the case an early exit!

As we began to talk about it, it was duly noted that our friend Hal, being slightly younger than us (and more akin to the utter campness of the teletubbies!) Hadn’t ever seen Knightmare.

I think he felt so ashamed of himself that he ended up watching it in our break between lessons in order to re-affirm his ‘street cred’, and in doing so stumbled across a genius clip of some kid making a howler and sending his knight friend to his doom!! I bet he got bullied after that!!!

Cos it was genius I put a link below, check it out:

Sidestep To Your Left!!!

Premiership Hots Up!

OK, here's a lil unbiased look at the brief happnin's of this weekend:

Man United 1 - Liverpool 4

The Champs were embarrased by a Liverpool side with a point to prove. Having taken the lead through an early Ronaldo penalty things were looking all to familiar. An uncharacteristic mistake from Vidic however allowed Torres to finish in deadly fashion. Evra was the next to crumble, felling Gerrard in the box who slotted home Liverpools 2nd goal.

After the break Vidic wrestled Gerrard to the ground who was in on goal. United's player of the year so far was having a miserable day. He was justifiably sent off. Aurelio curled in the resulting freekick like a master. To add insult to injury, sub Dossena lobbed the ball over a helpless looking Van der Sar.

United are still 4 points clear with a game in hand, but they'll look to forgot this ever happened. Liverpool must now continue in this form until the end in oder to cause any real problems. But they truly truimphed over the leaders in what looks to have been the match of the season.

Arsenal 4 - 0

Arshavin scores as the Gunners rediscover their cutting edge. They move into forth.

Aston Villa 1 - Tottenham Hotspur 2

Villa's run of bad form continues. They surender the champions league spot and fall to 5th. Spurs on the other hand have climbed far from relegation and look to venture into the top half next week.

The Name Game

Back in the day when I was at 6th form I remember one of my schoolmates Joe using media studies lesson time to it’s full potential by creating the name game. He used to write a list of famous peoples names and then read them to you one after the other until you laughed. What was crazy about this ‘game’ was that often you would crack on the first name, mainly due to the fact you’re not supposed to laugh, but also because often names are FUNNY!

I’d forgotten about this game until recently when my brother was talking about how when people say your name at you at a random time it’s actually quite funny! Being the older and more mature brother I disagreed, that was until he responded by saying my name in a sarcastic voice! I flippin wet myself laughing!

My crazy mind got to work on this and I remembered my friend Joe’s ‘game’ and decided to update it for double 0 nine! I came up with the idea of texting random famous peoples names to my mates to see what response I’d get!! After test driving it in a college lesson and leaving my mates in stitches with my randomness I decided to take it one step further…..

My next step was to text … mates the name Dolf Lundgren, the actor who played the classic Ivan Drago in Rocky! Some people knew the game, some didn’t, so I wanted to see if it would either A – bring funny responses from those in the know, or B – start some kind of name battle or meaningful conversation amongst friends who didn’t understand! I chose friends who I thought were more likely to respond randomly to what I put and therefore give me something funny to write about and……SENT!

My first response was from one of my schoolfriends Gilsy he fired back almost instantly another 80’s classic action hero in the shape of Steven Segal! This went on for a little while until he ultimately owned me with his vast knowledge of old school pumphouses!! 2 of my housemates who I’d told about the college incident the night before just responded quickly, probably despairingly of my infantile behaviour! Then 1 of my college mates spent about an hour and a half playing famous name tennis with me as we batted names back and forth..pure jokes, my favourite was probably Jim Davidson!! As he knew it was funny but I felt that I had not managed to get anyone who didn’t understand the game to either respond or to say anything profound, with the exception of Texas who advised me to watch Masters of the Universe clips on youtube to see Dolf in all his glory!!

But as I’d lost hope for the game to catch on with anyone new my mate Thom who’s the drummer for a band called Medallist (yeah google them, electro rocktastic!!) started a barrage of randomness starting with a classic Rod Hull and Emu! I was buoyed by this and felt that it hadn’t all been in vein, and after various name games against my mate Thom I feel my idea was a success! A useless waste of time, but a success nonetheless!

So next time your bored…Play the name game!! Hours of FUN!

Until I get crazy at ya next time keep it Crektik!

DJ Kanji Kinetic - this guy is a badman. His production (Electro/Grime/Rave) is top notch, as are his mixing skills. I saw him live at ChockaBlock and he was by far the sickest Rave Dj i've seen since DJ Narrows.

Sub-U and the Understudy!!

Well you crazy people, here’s some more Sub-U news!!

If you are into the Bristol Drum and Bass scene there is a good chance you've heard of DJ Understudy! He’s been picking up slots over the last year or so in the Bristol Drum and Bass scene and has warmed up for the likes of Pendulum, Total Science, EZ Rollers, Moving Fusion and The Brookes Brothers, making a name for himself in the process! Here’s what Phil Brookes of the Brookes Brothers had to say about him:

“(He’s) one of the tightest up and coming djs on the circuit, top notch mixing and selection, definitely one to watch out for”

Why are we talking about this guy you ask yourselves!! Not only is he a good mate of ours but he is also taking up a new residency….As the Mix Master Mike of Sub-Universe!!

Texas being the class clown of Sub-Universe decided to initiate Understudy to the group by creating the Chickens Day Out dance and promptly performing it with Understudy….Who needs the rolex sweep when you’ve got Sooty and Sweep…YOU MUPPETS! I’ll be tendering my resignation from Sub-Universe as soon as I’ve finished this blog as the rest of them seem to be suffering with serious mental problems.........JOKES!

Check the youtube link below to see Tex and the Understudy cover themselves in glory!:
